September 2026 is bringing a varied slate of virtual reality releases across Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2 and PC VR, with new games spanning detective mysteries, survival horror, football, co-op space combat and extraction shooters.
Among the month’s notable dates, Detective VR reaches PC VR and PS VR2 on Sept. 9, The Lightkeepers and Transformers: Beyond Reality Redux arrive on Quest on Sept. 10, and Into the Radius 2 makes its PlayStation VR2 debut Sept. 24. CONVRGENCE also reaches a milestone on PC VR, leaving more than two years of Early Access with its Version 1.0 release on Sept. 17.
The lineup gives headset owners considerably different experiences rather than concentrating entirely on VR shooters. For anyone considering the hardware needed to play them, GameFi Times’ VR gaming headset and games guide covers the differences between major VR platforms and their game ecosystems.
Here are eight September VR releases GameFi Times has independently checked ahead of launch. Release plans can still change, so dates below reflect information available as of Sept. 6.
Detective VR — September 9 | PC VR, PS VR2
Detective VR turns investigation itself into a VR mechanic. Developed by Studio CHIPO Y JUAN and Valem Studio and published by VRKiwi, the narrative adventure launches Sept. 9 on Steam and PlayStation VR2. Both storefronts currently list that date.
Players investigate a crime by collecting evidence, photographing clues, interviewing witnesses and evaluating conflicting testimony. One of the more interesting mechanics is control over time: scenes can be paused, rewound and replayed so players can search for details they previously missed.
Detective VR is not entirely new to VR. The September release expands the game’s platform availability after an earlier Meta Quest release. For PC VR and PS VR2 players, however, Sept. 9 marks their opportunity to enter the investigation.
The Lightkeepers — September 10 | Meta Quest 3 and 3S
Spectral Games’ The Lightkeepers launches Sept. 10 for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. The co-op survival game takes players into a 1920s setting inspired by Lovecraftian horror, combining daytime exploration with the defense of a lighthouse after nightfall.
Players travel between islands by boat, searching for equipment and resources while solving puzzles and exploring dungeons. Those expeditions feed into the survival side of the game: players can craft consumables and fortifications and upgrade weapons between missions.
The developer has announced a $19.99 launch price, while the Quest listing supports single-player, multiplayer and co-op play. The Lightkeepers is specifically listed for Quest 3 and Quest 3S rather than Quest 2.
Transformers: Beyond Reality Redux — September 10 | Meta Quest
Transformers: Beyond Reality Redux arrives Sept. 10, bringing META4 Interactive’s arcade-style Transformers shooter to Meta Quest. Meta’s official store lists support for Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
The game puts the player in the role of a human recruit fighting alongside Autobots including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Grimlock against Megatron and the Decepticons.
Rather than presenting an open-world Transformers adventure, Redux is built around on-rails arcade shooting, with players dodging attacks, fighting bosses and moving through battles on Earth and Cybertron. Meta lists it as a single-player PvE game with standing and room-scale modes.
The title was also among the projects highlighted during Meta’s June 2026 VR Games Showcase coverage.
CleanSheet Soccer 2 — September 17 | Meta Quest
VR football takes a goalkeeper-first approach with CleanSheet Soccer 2, which reaches Meta Quest on Sept. 17 after launching earlier on PlayStation VR2. Developer INCISIV’s Quest version supports Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Instead of putting players up front to score goals, CleanSheet Soccer 2 places them between the posts. Motion-captured match scenarios include free kicks, corners, penalties and breakaways, while dedicated drills focus on reactions, handling and decision-making.
Career progression lets players represent one of three fictional clubs, earn equipment and upgrade their stadium as they advance.
The standard Quest price is listed at $24.99, with a 20% pre-order offer reducing it to $19.99 ahead of release. That distinction matters: $19.99 is currently the discounted pre-order price, not the regular list price.
VR’s ability to turn physical movement into a core input is also relevant beyond entertainment. GameFi Times recently examined another use of immersive technology in its report on VR and interactive technology at Gamescom 2026.
CONVRGENCE 1.0 — September 17 | PC VR
Sept. 17 is not technically CONVRGENCE’s first release. Instead, it marks the VR extraction shooter’s transition from Early Access to Version 1.0.
Solo developer Monkey-With-a-Bomb launched CONVRGENCE in Steam Early Access on April 22, 2024. Steam now lists Sept. 17, 2026, as the date it will leave Early Access.
The game sends players into the procedurally generated Chernokamensk Anomaly Zone alongside a dog companion. Raids involve preparing weapons and supplies, scavenging for loot, fighting enemies and trying to extract safely.
Version 1.0 is expected to do more than remove the Early Access label. The developer says the update will introduce a complete story reaching the heart of the Anomaly Zone, alongside significantly reworked quests and other improvements. Continued support is planned after the full release.
Sol Protocol — September 17 | Meta Quest 3 and 3S
Sol Protocol also launches Sept. 17, with developer Singular Perception building its VR experience around the cooperation required to operate a spacecraft.
The game divides responsibilities between crew roles. Players may need to pilot through hazards, operate weapons or manage the ship’s systems while confronting randomized encounters in space. Its design makes communication and role management central to survival rather than treating multiplayer as an optional addition.
The Sept. 17 release is for Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with the title entering Early Access rather than launching as a finished 1.0 release. A PC VR/SteamVR version is planned afterward.
Scared by Squares — September 24 | PC, PC VR
Scared by Squares has an unusual premise for a horror game: developer Siege Industries is attempting to build tension largely around simple geometric forms rather than relying on familiar monsters and horror imagery.
The game launches on Steam on Sept. 24 and supports both conventional flatscreen and VR play. Steam lists Oculus Rift, Meta Quest through Link, Valve Index and HTC Vive among its supported VR options.
Players enter a digital environment known as The Cube to investigate corrupted geometry, with exploration mixed with puzzles, traps, platforming challenges and anomalies. A free demo is already available, although Steam specifies that the current demo’s first floor is presented in standard flatscreen mode.
That makes Scared by Squares one of September’s more experimental releases, particularly for players interested in psychological horror rather than conventional action-heavy VR.
Into the Radius 2 — September 24 | PlayStation VR2
One of September’s biggest VR platform releases comes at the end of this list. Into the Radius 2 launches for PlayStation VR2 on Sept. 24, bringing CM Immersive’s survival shooter to Sony’s headset.
The official PlayStation announcement confirms that the PS VR2 edition launches with its expanded single-player campaign, while two-player co-op is planned as a free update during the fourth quarter of 2026.
Survival revolves around expeditions into the hostile Pechorsk Anomaly, where players manage equipment, customize and maintain firearms, recover artifacts and deal with environmental anomalies and hostile entities. Neglecting weapon maintenance can cause individual firearm components to deteriorate and eventually contribute to malfunctions.
The PS VR2 version is also designed around Sony’s hardware. CM Immersive says it uses adaptive trigger resistance, headset and controller haptics, eye-tracked foveated rendering, 3D Audio and native 90 fps performance. Sony’s official Into the Radius 2 store listing independently lists the Sept. 24 release date and confirms PS VR2 and Sense controllers are required.
September’s VR lineup spreads across three ecosystems
The September calendar illustrates how fragmented VR gaming remains across standalone, console and PC ecosystems.
Quest owners get several of the month’s releases without requiring a gaming PC or console, including The Lightkeepers, Transformers: Beyond Reality Redux, CleanSheet Soccer 2 and Sol Protocol. PC VR receives Detective VR alongside CONVRGENCE’s 1.0 milestone and Scared by Squares, while PS VR2 players get Detective VR and the new console version of Into the Radius 2.
There is also an important distinction between genuinely new games and new platform releases. CleanSheet Soccer 2 previously appeared on PS VR2, Detective VR already existed on Quest, and CONVRGENCE has been playable in Early Access since 2024. Into the Radius 2 similarly is not making its overall debut on Sept. 24; that date specifically applies to the PS VR2 edition.
For players deciding what to follow, September’s appeal is therefore less about one dominant VR blockbuster and more about variety: investigation, cooperative survival, licensed arcade action, sport, extraction shooting, space teamwork and experimental horror all have confirmed dates during the month.
